How Do I Connect an Ice Maker Supply Line
I am not fond of plumbing work, but this is so easy to install! Installation took less than 30 minutes, even though I tricked it out a little bit with an exterior ice-maker water filter. Besides the obvious ease of connection, I love that it has a quarter-turn shutoff. The PEX tubing is very easy to work with. It also comes with some decorative covers that conceal the connection points. I love this thing! This is not my first plumbing project with sharkbite fixtures. The connection site was corroded from weeping water that is acidic in our area no neutralizer for sometime by original owner , so when I saw this on HD, I decided to go with the sharkbite kit.

You can also hire a professional licensed plumber in your area to hook up the ice maker kit for you if you are not that handy. The basic ice maker kit will include the saddle valve, the roll of ice maker line which may be copper, plastic or even a heavy duty braided line. The ice maker kit will also contain a metal feral if the line is plastic so you can connect the line to an angle stop if need be. A copper water line ice maker kit will be more expensive then the ice maker kit that comes with the plastic line.
In the past, the timer used would control ice maker and cooling operation of refrigerators. Refrigerator timers have definitely changed, therefore, it is perfectly ok to purchase a refrigerator and not hook up ice maker.
A compressed liquid is normally a liquid with a solid or gas pushing down on it, and in the case of this setup, the air would just be pressurized at the top of the keg pushing down on the water. On a keg, the pickup for the liquid is at the bottom, so what happens is the pressurized air pushes the water through the spout at the bottom, then out to the fridge. Air “floats,” being of a lower density than water. It’s as if you attached a hose to the bottom of a water bottle, then blew air into the top of the water bottle – it would force water out of the hose.
The most important hardware would be a keg coupler, which would have two ports – air in and water out. You can buy a compressor and hook it up to the keg full time, or you can buy a small tire compressor and wire up a pressure switch for a bit cheaper.
It is a beautiful stainless steel unit and I was told that it was highly rated. I started having trouble with the ice-maker about 6 months later. When the ice-maker totally quit working Started getting ice again the next day.

How to Install Plumbing for an Ice Maker A refrigerator with an automated ice maker and a built-in water dispenser does absolutely nothing if you do not have a water line to connect to it. You can solve this with an ice maker installation kit that allows you to use the plumbing beneath the sink. The kit provides you with the required parts to hook up a water line to your refrigerator. You may have three water supply lines beneath the sink; two lines connect directly to the faucet while the third line connects to the dishwasher.
The valve connected to the right side of the faucet is the cold water supply line. Turn the cold water on the supply line clockwise to close it. Drill holes in the base cabinet walls to route the water line from beneath the sink to the rear of the refrigerator. Drill as close to the back wall of the cabinet as possible, so you do not lose storage space inside the cabinet. Leave the excess water line behind the refrigerator. Use pliers to untwist the faucet supply line from the cold water supply valve.
Twist the male end of a quick-tee adapter onto the valve.

Cools quicker and molds easier than other types Low production costs Soft, so risk of choking is low Gourmet Ice Gourmet ice is best suited for mixed drinks. This ice is clearer and has fewer minerals than other types. However, to get this shape and quality, it uses more water and electricity. There is a silver lining to that cloud, though. That higher water usage means a denser, more solid cube that will displace more liquid and melt more slowly, preserving the quality of your drinks.

January 17, at 8: How does the Merlin system prevent the fridge system being poisoned with TDS-creep water if it has very low demand, typical of ice and water only systems? The Merlin system, as great as it seems, NEEDS some sort of storage tank to improve its efficiency in real world situations. Its only efficient if you can draw down more than 10 gallons per cycle of its flush system.
Otherwise it wastes more water than the cheaper units. January 17, at In my opinion, a permeate pump RO is better, much better, because it wastes less water, supplies much higher pressure, virtually eliminates TDS Creep and costs a lot less than a Merlin. A Merlin is great when you need several hundred gallons of water a day. If you need but a few, look elsewhere.

My kitchen is undergoing a remodel, so when I saw this product, I couldn’t resist. Our prior water connection to my refrigerator came from a hole in my kitchen floor. This is so very much nicer. The well-constructed recessed box makes for a much neater installation and looks great hidden behind my fridge. My husband was actually impressed with this outlet box – he hadn’t been aware they were available. Installation was pretty straightforward, and the included faceplate cover makes for a very professional finishing touch.
A very handy feature is the easy access water shut off. On the sides of the box there are flanges for hanging. There is a nice finish trim that snaps on the the box that gives it a clean look. I installed this in “new” construction complete kitchen gut job so I can’t speak to retrofitting into old construction, but I imagine it would be nearly as easy.
I connected a braided stainless steel ice maker hose directly to the valve – quick and easy. Ice maker and water dispenser work great! This is a convenient inwall connection for your icemaker. Installation is simple and in total takes about an hour.

My Photos Icemaker drain fiasco Everytime I come across a stand alone icemaker, some yahoo, unthinking, no common sense plumber has done something stupid. I find any number of idiotic methods of connecting the ice maker drain to the sanitary which in my view should not even be done at all. Now I have to confess that I really am not even sure what my code IPC has to say about this but common sense would say that if it is going to discharge to the sanitary, at the very least, it should run to the stand pipe of a trap and absolutely should have an air gap.
I have found them all kinds of ways, sometimes just stuck in a hole drilled in the nearest drain! This morning I find one that is stuck into about a 4″ stand pipe of a 2″ p-trap located in the drop ceiling of the finished basement just below the ice maker.
Apr 30, · I just ordered a new fridge and was told by Best Buy that they won’t hook up the ice maker if I don’t have an outlet box (a water shut off valve that is right behind the fridge). Right now, I just have a plastic tube coming up out of the floor that goes straight into the fridge.
How to Install Plumbing for an Ice Maker Refrigerators with automatic ice makers are a great convenience, especially on a hot day. However, there is nothing automatic about getting a water line hooked up to the ice maker. If you are lucky, there will be a hookup in your kitchen wall near the refrigerator.
If not, you will need to run a line to the nearest cold water pipe, which is probably in the floor below your kitchen. An hour project of drilling and running flexible hose is well worth the pleasure of ice on demand. Tapping the Cold Water Line 1 Shut off the main water supply to your home. The folks at GE Appliances recommend using a vertical pipe, if available. If you must use a horizontal pipe, place the hole for the valve either on the top or side of the pipe.

Push Connect Fittings Type of Plumbing Connections Next, decide what type of tools you will need to get the job done, and it should depend on the type of connections that you will be using. If you will be soldering your joints to copper pipe, you’ll need a lot more material. If soldering, you will be soldering copper pipe straight up to the fridge eliminating a large chance of leakage that most other types of connections bow to eventually.
